If you had asked me six months ago if I would twitter I would have looked at you incredulously and asked why, what for? How many people want to know what I'm doing?
But now I've started - three tweets to my name already.
It's important to differentiate between the personal tweets and the professional. I still have my doubt about tweeting "had a good lunch" (pace Jan Klerk) but thoughts about things you care about are worth tweeting about and sharing. And for libraries of course it's a great marketing tool.
So for me Twitter is not so much the answer to the question What are you doing? but rather What do you find interesting, funny or mind boggling? That's the basis on which I choose who to follow.
And the act of twittering? Well it takes getting used to. There are certain tricks to make your tweets more effective for example include a link and other stuff which I still have to get under the knee.
Having a smartphone (which I don't have) might help I think. Tweets and mobility go hand in hand...

ReplyDeleteDe vraag "what are you doing?" stond heel lang boven het vak waarin je je mededeling kon tikken. Dat riep dus inderdaad het soort Tweets op van ïk ben aan het koken, want m'n schoonouders komen eten" of iets dergelijks. Nu staat er "What’s happening?". Iets neutraler. Het gaat er vooral om dat je Twitter leert ontdekken als waardevol middel om snel en kort informatie uit te wisselen. Daarbij helpt het als je mensen volt die jou persoonlijk wat te zeggen hebben, mensen of instanties die op jouw vak- of interessegebied waarde kunnen toevoegen. Probeer daar eens gericht naar te zoeken en staart je niet te veel blind op de - in jouw ogen - onzinnige berichten. Hoe kan het jou helpen in je werk, als zender én ontvanger.

ReplyDelete"What's happening?" is inderdaad een stuk beter. Uiteraard volg ik mensen en instanties die mij persoonlijk en professioneel wat te zeggen hebben.
Ik heb al gericht gezocht en een keuze gemaakt van twitteraars die ik volg - de meeste voor professioneel gebruik in eerste instantie. Ik wil niet overspoeld worden met te veel afleiding.
Er is best veel te leren hoe je optimaal kunt twitteren.
